Our league team represents GZD in the Manchester Badminton League throughout the season. League matches are a step up from club nights: faster, more tactical, and played to win. If you are keen to get involved, speak to the organiser directly and we will assess where you would fit best.
Players who feature in more than 2 league fixtures per season are required to hold a full club membership.
Not sure where you sit on the competitive scale? We use a simple internal grading system via eBadders to help match players to the right level, whether that is casual club nights or league selection. The guide below breaks down each grade so you know what to expect and where you stand.
Beginner
New to badminton or returning after a long break. Still building grip, footwork, and getting the shuttle over the net consistently.
Improver
Grasp of the basics, sustaining a rally with some regularity, becoming aware of positioning and starting to think about shot placement.
Lower Intermediate
Growing confidence, core shots becoming more reliable. Holding your own in casual competitive play and building rallies with intention.
Intermediate
Solid, well-rounded club player. Footwork gets you to most shots, shot selection is purposeful, comfortable in singles and doubles.
Higher Intermediate
Strong club player with a competitive edge. Efficient movement, wide shot variety, clear tactical awareness. Approaching or in league-level play.
Advanced
Experienced, high-level player. Technically refined, tactically intelligent, physically disciplined. Consistent performer in GZD's competitive squad.
County Level
Competes or has competed at county level or equivalent. Technically precise, tactically superior, mentally composed in high-stakes situations.
Grades are a rough guide, not a rigid ranking. Speak to the organiser if you feel you have progressed.
